Here in Middleburg, we're fortunate to have something truly special.
The Artists in Middleburg isn't simply another gallery with beautiful paintings on the walls. It's a nonprofit dedicated to making art accessible throughout our community. While visitors see thoughtfully curated exhibitions, what often goes unnoticed is everything happening behind the scenes.
The organization partners with local schools, provides educational programs for children, offers scholarships, hosts workshops, and creates opportunities for people of all ages to discover their own creativity. Their mission extends far beyond the gallery doors because they believe art belongs to everyone.
If you've never entered a gallery as an exhibiting artist, you may not realize how intimidating that first step can be.
Questions race through your mind.
Am I good enough?
Will anyone understand my work?
Do I even belong here?
For many local artists—including myself—The Artists in Middleburg has been one of those rare places that answers those questions with a warm, welcoming "Yes."
They don't simply hang artwork. They encourage artists to grow, take chances, enter juried exhibitions, meet collectors, and become part of a creative community. That kind of support is invaluable, especially for emerging artists trying to find their place.
Organizations like this don't thrive on beautiful buildings alone.
They thrive because passionate people choose to give their time.
Executive Director Sandy Danielson has spent decades working in the nonprofit arts world and brings experience from organizations including Washington's Textile Museum, along with studies in arts, humanities, and photography. Her passion for supporting artists and expanding arts education is evident in everything the gallery does.
Alongside Sandy is Laura Fulton, whose work helps keep the gallery running day-to-day—from exhibitions and educational programming to social media and community outreach. Like many nonprofits, they are also supported by an incredible team of volunteers who help make every exhibition, class, reception, and event possible.
Nonprofits don't run on passion alone.
They run on people.
If you've ever attended an opening reception, admired a local exhibition, or watched a child proudly display artwork after an art class, you've already experienced the impact volunteers can have.
If you have a few hours each month, consider volunteering.
You don't have to be an artist.
You simply have to believe that creativity deserves a place in our community.
Whether you're greeting visitors, helping hang exhibitions, assisting during events, or supporting educational programs, your time can help ensure that local artists—and the next generation of artists—continue to have opportunities to grow.
Because when we support organizations like The Artists in Middleburg, we're not just supporting art.
We're investing in our community.
